In a significant move to support the growth and competitiveness of Malta’s industrial sector, the government has introduced a new Support for the Rental & Acquisition of Industrial Space scheme designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in acquiring industrial space.
This scheme, administered by Malta Enterprise, aims to encourage the ownership of industrial property rather than long-term leasing, providing a much-needed boost to businesses looking to expand operations or invest in their future.
Who Is Eligible?
The scheme is open to SMEs employing up to 250 full-time staff and engaged in the following sectors:
- Manufacturing
- Artisanal work
- Industrial packaging
- Repair of vehicles, machinery, or electrical equipment
- Industrial laundry services
What Support Is Available?
Eligible businesses can benefit from financial assistance of up to 50% of eligible rental and acquisition costs up to €300,000 over a six-year period:
- Years 1–3: Cash grants
- Years 4–6: Tax credits
This equates to a maximum of €50,000 per year to support the purchase of industrial space, intending to make property ownership more accessible and sustainable for SMEs.
When to Apply
Applications must be submitted between the promise of sale and the final contract.
However, there’s a special concession for early 2025 purchases — properties acquired between January 1 and August 15, 2025, can still benefit from the scheme if the application is submitted by September 1, 2025.
This initiative builds on the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Malta’s manufacturing and industrial backbone by reducing overhead costs and increasing long-term stability for smaller enterprises.
