Today, CLA Malta truly embodied the spirit of giving back by taking part in a meaningful initiative at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Xrobb l-Għaġin. It was a day dedicated to environmental action, awareness, and tangible support for Malta’s biodiversity.
The day began with a hands-on activity in which the CLA Malta team helped plant 120 Maltese Salt Shrubs, an endemic and rare plant species that plays an important role in the local ecosystem. This effort directly contributes to habitat restoration and the preservation of Malta’s natural heritage.
Following this, the team was given a guided tour of the rehabilitation centre, with a particular focus on the work carried out to rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles. Participants gained valuable insight into the care, treatment, and eventual release of injured wildlife back into their natural habitats.
To further support these efforts, CLA Malta also made a donation to the centre, helping ensure the continuation of its important work in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and education.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a project led by Nature Trust – FEE Malta, with the support of the Ministry for the Environment, Sustainable Development and Climate Change, and funded through the European Regional Development Fund. Located within the Xrobb l-Għaġin Natural Park, it represents a unique facility in Malta dedicated to the rehabilitation of marine, terrestrial, and avian wildlife.
Prior to the establishment of this centre, wildlife rehabilitation in Malta was carried out in a fragmented manner, largely driven by the dedicated volunteers of Nature Trust’s Wildlife Rescue Team. Today, the centre provides a structured environment where injured animals can receive professional care and, where possible, be safely released back into the wild.
The project also involves the regeneration of previously derelict buildings within the former Deutsche Welle radio relay station, transforming them into a modern hub for conservation and environmental education.
Today’s initiative reflects what CLA Malta stands for: going beyond business and actively giving back to the community and the environment. We’re built differently, focused on taking real, meaningful action that creates tangible impact.
“BUILT DIFFERENTLY,
FOR OUR PLANET”
